Festival Marketing / Regulatory Compliance
“Classically trained but never contained…” – that’s the tagline that generally describes Michael Liu’s stage alias ‘Mr Michael’. He has performed regularly in the Canberra arts scene for a good part of the last decade, and has cemented his reputation as a respected and versatile musician and DJ.
Perhaps lesser known is his marketing and managing experience, which he is bringing to Art, Not Apart this year. Michael began work in Canberra in the parliamentary Press Gallery before working a stint as a political staffer. He then branched out into the retail and hospitality industries – both on the frontline and in various marketing and business development roles – to broaden his skillset. During this time, he became founding Music Director of Fashfest and developed its first two arts programs. Other work includes events with Dendy Cinemas, Canberra Centre and an ongoing relationship with the Canberra Airport. Early in 2015 Michael was tasked with producing and managing the Australian National University’s O-Week concert, Purple Haze. This event drew crowds of thousands with a stellar Australian line-up and tight production.
Recently Michael Liu has joined David Caffery as part of Dionysus, an event programs and cultural development organisation. He joins the teams as Media and Events Strategist. As an extension of this role, Michael is delighted to return for the festival for the second year as Marketing and Compliance Manager for Art, Not Apart 2017.
