About the Artist

Nasim Patel is a dancer with an interest in the intersection of poetry, music and dance. He began his dance training at QL2 Centre for Youth Dance in Canberra, and is currently studying dance at Victorian College of Arts. Nasim was awarded the inaugural Young Poets Award at the University of Canberra, administered by the International Poetry Studies Institute. His first solo work using poetry and dance, Encrypted Limbs, was performed at the Strawberry Fields festival and the Poetry on the Move festival at the University of Canberra in 2016. In 2015, he took part in QL2’s Site Effects at Art, Not Apart.
Over the past few years Nasim has worked collaboratively producing music with his brother Hanif by contributing vocals and lyrics. Hanif has played in several bands, and produced a number of independently recorded songs. He has recently recorded and produced an experimental solo instrumental rock EP titled Folklore under the name Memphre. It will be released in early 2017.
