Bamboo Trio: An Intercultural Performance
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Bamboo Trio is a musical project aiming to narrate stories of the double-consciousness between each member’s cultural origins and their connection with Australia. Themes and emotions that are familiar to Australians from culturally diverse backgrounds - such as, detachment, distant memories, new beginnings and unity - are sonified within the trio’s music. Bamboo Trio see ‘intercultural composition’ as a medium to create fusions of Eastern and Western melodies, bringing to life nostalgic narratives and stories of adventure within contemporary and traditional sounds.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Bamboo Trio is a new cross-cultural fusion ensemble from the heart of Australia, Canberra. Using the medium of nature, acoustic sound and synthesised effects, Bamboo Trio composes music with the purpose of exploring the boundaries of Australia’s cultural soundscapes. From original compositions to revitalising folk songs with Western dynamics, Bamboo Trio aims to create a thought-provoking experience leaving listeners one step closer to understanding their stance within the global soundscape. Comprised of composer-pianist Roya Safaei, erhu virtuoso Qing Xu and vocalist-lyricist Caitlin Magee, each member contributes an original voice to form the ensemble’s unique sound aesthetic.
