Voice, Body and Soul
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Handel in the Theatre ensemble have broken out of the 18th century to bring their body-sound-movement approach to the glories of gospel music. Favourites like Swing Low Sweet Chariot, and Go Tell it on the Mountain and other delights, in delicious arrangements that will move your spirit and soothe your soul. Can they leave Handel completely behind?
ABOUT THE ARTIST
The Handel in the Theatre ensemble was established by Tobias Cole and Kelly Corner to explore the power of combining voice, body and movement. Their powerful performances thoroughly engaged the audiences of the company's recent opera productions in the Canberra Playhouse, Handel’s Susanna (2018) and Handel’s Esther (2017). ‘An exceptional production bringing Handel to life and into the 21st century’, ‘So alive…it felt like a new genre was being created.’ Artistic Director and singer Tobias Cole has also performed principal roles with all the major Australian opera companies. He loves working with groups of singers to reach their full potential in an ensemble context, and collaborating with directors and choreographers such as Caroline Stacey and Belynda Buck.
