Hochsitz

Street Art, Visual Art

ABOUT THE PROJECT

‘Hochsitz’ by byrd is a towering sentinel made from cardboard with a small room atop that fits one person. Built as an observation point and used for contemplation. This comes from a body of works expanding from the contemplation of contemporary German land management practices (framed by the Australian version) and the ‘wilding’ of siloed thinking behaviours from the University sector to the political and public sphere.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

byrd is a freelance graffiti muralist and conceptual sculptor, living and working in Canberra. Starting out as a graffiti painter 20 years ago, he remains passionate about grass roots and activist art-practice, and its history in the local and global contexts. He paints walls wherever he can- but also makes commercial and experimental works for gallery exhibition; commissions for private clients; as well as competing for public mural tenders.
